The artistic exhibition organized by the UAHR during the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva featured 40 awareness and documentation visual posters that collectively offered a visual dimension reflecting the evolution of human rights and justice systems in the UAE. The posters demonstrated the UAE’s commitment to international standards and were structured around four main themes:
Theme 1: Criminal Justice and Fair Trial GuaranteesThe posters addressed the core foundations of legal protection, such as humane criminal justice, the protection of defendants’ rights, the security of victims and witnesses, restorative juvenile justice, multilingual access to justice, digital transformation in the judiciary, and the provision of smart, inclusive justice services for all.
Theme 2: National Legislation and Legal ModernizationIt focused on the legislative evolution in the UAE, highlighting the update of over 40 laws to enhance justice. Key laws included cybercrime laws, law on combating human trafficking, the role of the UAE Constitution in safeguarding rights and freedoms, and the use of transparency tools and digital accountability mechanisms.
Theme 3: International Commitments and Legal CooperationThe posters illustrated the UAE’s engagement with the UN human rights system, including international treaties the country has ratified and its legal representation on international committees (such as the Committee Against Torture and the Committee on the Rights of the Child). They also highlighted the role of legal diplomacy through UAE embassies, the role of the UN as an international arbitrator, and a symbolic scene of future generations reading the UN Charter.
Theme 4: Future Visions and Human ValuesThe exhibition featured artistic scenes symbolizing the role of law in protecting peace and human dignity. Notable pieces included the “Map of Justice,” depicting UN interventions through legal means to maintain global security, and the “Global Balance of Justice,” which illustrated the delicate balance between dignity, the rule of law, and human rights.
Over the course of three days, the exhibition welcomed a large number of visitors, including diplomatic mission representatives, UN experts and rapporteurs, international NGO delegates, university students, researchers, academics, and prominent civil society figures. The exhibition provided a platform for rich dialogue on the UAE’s legislative and human rights experience through an innovative artistic way.
