Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Union Association for Human Rights (UAHR) , met with Mr. Anis Anani, Human Rights Officer at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and Ms. Nadine Sahouri, Human Rights Officer at the Middle East and North Africa Section – Field Operations and Technical Cooperation Division.
As part of her official field visit to the UAE, H.E. Ms. Mama Fatima Singhateh, UN Special Rapporteur on the Sale and Sexual Exploitation of Children at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and her accompanying delegation met with a delegation from the Union Association for Human Rights (UAHR), led by H.E. Dr. Fatima Al-Kaabi, President of the UAHR.
Her Excellency Mariam Al Kaabi, UAE Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the League of Arab States, received Counselor Maryam Al-Ahmadi, Vice Chairperson - Union Association for Human Rights. The visit was part of the Association’s participation as representative of Emirati civil society in the 27th session of the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee. The session, held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo on January 27–28, 2025, discusses the UAE’s second periodic report.
Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, President of the Association, discussed with H.E. Ambassador Nabila Makram, Founder and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Fahim Foundation for Psychological Support – Egypt, the course of joint projects and ways to strengthen cooperation with the Union Association for Human Rights, in order to develop and enhance the role of civil society in safeguarding human rights in the field of mental health
The UAHR participated in a meeting with the delegation of the Arab Charter Committee on Human Rights Committee of the League of Arab States, chaired by H.E. Mr. Jaber Al-Marri, Chairman of the Committee. The meeting was held as part of the Association’s preparations to take part as an observer in the upcoming review of the UAE’s national report, scheduled for January.
As part of the visit by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls, its Causes and Consequences, to the United Arab Emirates, the Union Association for Human Rights met with the Rapporteur to review the national framework for legislative and institutional protection in the country and the role of civil society in strengthening it.
During a meeting between the delegation of the Union Association for Human Rights and officials from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, aimed at supporting cooperation and building a path of mutual trust between the association and the office, efforts and effectiveness of the civil society movement in the United Arab Emirates were highlighted.
As part of its efforts to support and promote human rights, a delegation from the UAHR visited the International Labour Organization (ILO) on the sidelines of the Association’s participation in the IDEX conference. The visit aimed to explore avenues of cooperation and identify future partnership opportunities that would further strengthen the role of UAE civil society in advancing this vital field.
A delegation from the Board of Directors of the Union Association for Human Rights discussed with the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, a number of matters of common interest, and ways of cooperation between the two sides with relation to the the right to health, in particular, and enhancing the prospects for coordination in the field of human rights in general.
