Union Association for Human Rights: Establishment of Abu Dhabi Labor Prosecution marks a milestone in strengthening rule of law and protecting workers’ rights
The Union Association for Human Rights praised the decision of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, to establish the Abu Dhabi Labor Prosecution. The Association affirmed that this step represents a practical embodiment of the UAE’s steadfast commitment to upholding the rule of law and reflects its continuous efforts to enhance its judicial system in line with the highest standards of justice and transparency.
The Association emphasized that the establishment of a specialized prosecution reflects the UAE’s approach to reinforcing judicial specialization, expediting investigation and prosecution procedures in cases related to workers and domestic labor, ensuring the protection of their rights, and providing swift justice for all parties.
It noted that this decision constitutes an important pillar in the development of the labor market in a way that supports the nation’s economic growth and aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 8 on decent work and economic growth.
It further highlighted that in 2024, the UAE continued to lead global labor market indicators. According to the World Competitiveness Yearbook issued by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), the UAE ranked first globally in four key indicators: employment rate, low labor disputes, reduced end-of-service compensation costs, and workforce participation. The UAE also ranked first in the Arab world in workforce growth, second globally in lack of bureaucracy, and third globally in the main labor market and residency law flexibility, in addition to high rankings in skilled labor and low unemployment rates.
In the same context, Abu Dhabi strengthened its position among the best cities in the world for employment, securing fourth place globally according to the Global Talent Analysis 2024 report, reflecting the emirate’s attractive environment for talent and skilled professionals.
The Association added that the establishment of the new prosecution will contribute to expediting the adjudication of labor cases, reducing the time required for case resolution, and enhancing cooperation with relevant authorities to overcome any challenges in the judicial process. This will ensure the UAE’s continued success in protecting rights and delivering justice. It also pointed out that specialized prosecutions help build the expertise of judicial staff and strengthen their capacity to efficiently handle complex and specialized cases.
The Association stressed that this decision is part of the UAE’s ongoing judicial and human rights development journey and demonstrates its commitment to international human rights conventions. It further cements the UAE’s global standing as a hub of transparency and judicial integrity and reaffirms its leadership in promoting the principles of justice and the rule of law.
