Meetings of 2024

Meeting (1) of 2024 – 8 February 2024

The UAHR’s Board of Directors held its first meeting on February 8, 2024, during which the elections for the formation of the Board of Directors for the first term (ending in 2028) were conducted. Seven resolutions were adopted, including the election of Dr. Fatima Khalifa Al-Kaabi as Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Counselor Maryam Al-Ahmadi as Vice Chairperson, Omran Al-Khoury as Secretary, Salam Mohamed Abu Karnib as Treasurer, and Esraa Al-Amiri as a Board Member.

The Board confirmed the UAHR’s commitment to supporting the core values and principles concerning human rights, which are enshrined in the UAE’s Constitution and laws, as well as in all international human rights conventions and the International Humanitarian Law.

The Board also highlighted that the association aims to address 15 integrated human rights responsibilities, including providing advice on national reports submitted by the UAE to international bodies and mechanisms concerned with human rights, and promoting respect for civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights for all members of society. The association will also strengthen its regional and international role through engagement with and participation in all international human rights bodies, events and mechanisms, in addition to promoting human rights awareness.

Meeting (2) of 2024 – 4 March 2024

The UAHR’s Board of Directors held its second meeting for 2024 on March 4, 2024. The meeting reviewed the progress on previous resolutions and discussed updates on the activation of the UAHR and future plans to promote and respect human rights. Seven new resolutions were adopted, including approving a visit plan to various national entities to enhance cooperation, endorsing the UAHR’s visual identity activation plan, and approving the UAHR’s strategy development plan. Additionally, it was confirmed that the UAHR would participate in the 55^th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Meeting (3) of 2024 – 4 April 2024

The UAHR’s Board of Directors held its third meeting for 2024 on April 4, 2024h. The meeting reviewed progress on previous resolutions and discussed the outcomes of the UAHR’s participation in the 55^th session of the UN Human Rights Council, which included nine oral statements and four written statements. The meeting also featured a discussion on a planned international symposium with UN special rapporteurs. Twelve resolutions were adopted, including approving the UAHR’s visual identity, plans for participation in the upcoming 56^th session of the UN Human Rights Council, and the appointment of the UAHR’s CEO and staff.

Meeting (4) of 2024 – 20 May 2024

The UAHR’s Board of Directors held its fourth meeting for 2024 on May 20, 2024. The meeting reviewed progress on previous resolutions regarding the strategic and operational plans and discussed the results of the UAHR’s participation in the UN Civil Society Conference in Nairobi, where the UAHR contributed to the drafting of the “Pact for the Future.” Eleven new resolutions were adopted, including coordinating with relevant community organizations and private companies for financial support and sponsorships, approving the first-quarter media monitoring report, and selecting board members for oral statements at the 56^th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

Meeting (5) of 2024 – 20 June 2024

The UAHR’s Board of Directors held its fifth meeting for 2024 on June 20, 2024. The meeting reviewed progress on previous resolutions, including approving the oral and written statements, and approving the photos to be displayed at the UAHR’s exhibition at the United Nations square in collaboration with the National Library and Archives and the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity. The meeting also addressed complaints received by the UAHR, and adopted eight new resolutions, including approving the UAHR’s strategic and operational plans, and approving ongoing studies and research being prepared by the UAHR.

Meeting (6) of 2024 – 12 July 2024

The UAHR’s Board of Directors held its sixth meeting for 2024 on July 12, 2024. The meeting reviewed progress on previous resolutions, including handling and closing complaints received by the UAHR and assessing client satisfaction. The Board also discussed the progress of a memorandum of understanding with the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity, as well as the completion status of projects outlined in the 2024 operational plan.

Meeting (7) of 2024 – 29 August 2024

The UAHR’s Board of Directors held its seventh meeting for 2024 on August 29, 2024. The meeting reviewed progress on previous resolutions, including the completion status of projects outlined in the 2024 operational plan, and updates on memorandums of understanding with relevant entities. Thirteen new resolutions were adopted, including the UAHR’s participation plan for the 57^th session of the UN Human Rights Council, with five written statements, fifteen oral statements, three art exhibitions, and international symposia to be held at the UN Headquarters in Geneva. Additionally, the UAHR’s mid-year achievement report and comments on the national report concerning the Arab Charter on Human Rights were approved.

Meeting (8) of 2024 – 30 September 2024

The UAHR’s Board of Directors held its eighth meeting of 2024 on September 30, 2024, during which it reviewed progress on previous decisions and assessed the implementation status of projects under the 2024 operational plan. The Board also received updates on the UAHR’s participation in the 57th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. During the meeting, the Board approved four key decisions, including the preparation of a shadow report for submission to the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee, and the outline of the first issue of the Emirates Magazine for Human Rights within one week after the meeting date.

Meeting (9) of 2024 – 30 October 2024

The UAHR’s Board of Directors held its ninth meeting of 2024 on October 30, 2024, to review progress on previous decisions, including the implementation status of projects under the 2024 operational plan. The board also examined the draft shadow report for submission to the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee. During the meeting, the Board approved nine key decisions, including coordinating with relevant parties to prepare appreciation certificates for students, volunteers, speakers at international symposia, and partners collaborating with the UAHR. Additionally, the board initiated the preliminary draft of the UAHR’s brochure, based on the semi-annual achievements report, which will be presented at the next Board meeting for approval.

Meeting (10) of 2024 – 29 November 2024

The UAHR’s Board of Directors held its tenth meeting of 2024 on November 29, 2024, during which it reviewed progress on previous decisions, including the implementation status of projects under the 2024 operational plan and the status of studies to be prepared by the UAHR. During the meeting, the Board approved seven key decisions, including the approval and publication of the UAHR shadow report through the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee, which will be discussed with the UAHR delegation in January 2025. Additionally, the Board approved the addition of two new sections to the Emirates Magazine for Human Rights: one dedicated to civil and political rights and another focusing on economic, social, and cultural rights, with a specific topic assigned to each section.

Meeting (11) of 2024 – 31 December 2024

The UAHR’s Board of Directors held its eleventh meeting of 2024 on December 31, 2024, to review progress on previous decisions, including the implementation status of projects under the 2024 operational plan. The Board also reviewed the achievements of the first issue of the Emirates Magazine for Human Rights, the proposed outline for the second issue, the upcoming research plan for 2025, the operational plan for 2025, and the UAHR’s achievements report 2024. During the meeting, the Board approved ten key decisions, including a proposal by the UAHR’s Chairperson to organize a brainstorming session aimed at enhancing projects in alignment with international human rights developments. The Board also approved the outline for the second issue of the Emirates Magazine for Human Rights, the operational plan for 2025, and the external participation strategy for 2025.
