Union Association for Human Rights values the adoption of the “Combating Islamophobia” resolution

The Union Association for Human Rights commended the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution on “Measures to Combat Islamophobia,” on the International Day for Combating Islamophobia. The Association also praised the resolution’s call for the appointment of a special UN envoy tasked with combating Islamophobia.

The Board of Directors of the Union Association for Human Rights affirms that the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in March 2024 contributes to the establishment of inclusive societies that live in peace and justice. It also encourages the promotion of a culture of tolerance based on respect for human rights and the diversity of religions and beliefs, which are central pillars of our shared Islamic heritage.

In this regard, the Board of Directors highlighted the efforts and measures taken by the UAE to combat the scourge of religious intolerance and to counter incitement to hatred or the spread of it. This commitment is rooted in the Islamic faith and the country’s constitution and laws designed to promote the values of peace, tolerance, and acceptance of others.

The Borad called for a firm stand against anything that could incite religious, sectarian, or doctrinal tensions that threaten the security of societies, emphasizing the need to eliminate such issues at their roots. It also urged the international community to ensure the implementation of the resolution, which would contribute to entrenching the principle of peaceful coexistence among peoples and cultures and collective commitment to human rights.
