The Union Association for Human Rights has launched its strategic plan for the years 2024-2028, aiming to enhance its national, regional and international centrality, enhance its contributions and leadership in the field of Human Rights, and ensure its alignment with global human rights trends.
The association’s vision is to “lead and excel in promoting human rights respect according to international standards,” while its mission emphasises effectively contributing to the protection and respect of human rights and enhancing the impact of all related legislation, decisions, practices and policies. Its core values include loyalty and belonging, commitment and responsibility, partnership and integration, independence and transparency, and leadership and excellence.
The plan outlines eight strategic goals encompassing 20 strategic projects and 34 key performance indicators to be achieved over five years (2024 – 2028).
The plan’s strategic goals include effective response, promoting human rights respect, developing partnerships, investing in national human rights talent, promoting human rights culture and preventing violations. It also aims to build community trust and diversify financial resources, covering civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights, with a focus on women, children, the elderly, People of Determination and workers.
A team of experts and consultants in human rights and strategic planning prepared and coordinated the plan, which consists of four main phases. The first phase involved diagnosing the current situation, assessing the reality of the “internal and external environment.” The second phase focused on “strategic development.” The third phase involved “approval of the strategy by the Board of Directors,” and the fourth phase was dedicated to identifying initiatives, performance indicators, and developing the implementation plans to achieve the strategic projects.
Dr. Fatima Khalifa Al Kaabi, President of the Union Association for Human Rights, stated that the launch of the association’s strategic plan is the result of the association team’s efforts. It contributes to a quantum leap in the work of civil society organisations, strengthens human rights leadership of the UAE and highlights its civilizational and humanitarian achievements. She pointed out that the association depended on future foresight in its launch of regional and international action.
Al Kaabi stated that the association’s strategic planning team held extensive meetings with numerous international experts and strategists, particularly those held on the sidelines of the 55th session of the International Human Rights Council, the 23rd session of the Arab Human Rights Committee in Cairo, and the meetings held by the association during its participation in the United Nations Civil Society Conference recently held in Nairobi, Kenya. This conference focused on exploring the visions and aspirations of civil society for the Summit and Charter for the Future, which the United Nations will organize at the end of this year.
