The Union Association for Human Rights (UAHR) participated in the 2024 UN Civil Society Conference “Impactful Alliances”, which kicked off May 2024 at the UN headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. Mariam Al-Ahmadi, UAHR Vice President, led the Association’s delegation and team of human rights experts, representing civil society in the UAE. The international conference is attended by more than 3,700 participants, representing various international bodies and mechanisms, and more than 400 international non-governmental organisations working in various humanitarian and development fields, in addition to representatives from a number of companies, institutions, and initiatives concerned with promoting human development programmes in the world, harnessing modern technologies to serve humanity and address current and future challenges. The conference includes discussions on the visions of civil society organizations regarding the United Nations Charter for the Future, for which the UN is working on a final draft based on discussions and consultations to understand needs and address future challenges. The conference also covers the Five Principles of the Future Charter: Sustainable Development and Development Financing; International Peace and Security; Science, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Cooperation; Youth and Future Generations; and Transforming Global Governance. Additionally, the conference will witness the launch of the Civil Society Coalition for Future Impact, which will serve as a platform for NGOs worldwide to enhance cooperation among all civil society institutions. The coalition aims to present initiatives and ideas to support international efforts for implementing the UN Charter for the Future and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the world. Under UN supervision, a “community” action plan will be developed to include all ideas, projects, and initiatives related to future international cooperation, strengthening commitments and efforts by states, companies, and NGOs to ensure coordinated and comprehensive implementation of the charter across all human societies.
