Commending the role of the UAE in safeguarding civil and political rights and promoting human rights

Counselor Maryam Al-Ahmadi, Vice Chairperson – Union Association for Human Rights, delivered a statement before the 55th Session of the Human Rights Council under Agenda Item 4, titled “Commending the efforts of the UAE in civil and political rights and all rights.”
Content of the Statement:Counselor Maryam Al-Ahmadi, Vice Chairperson – Union Association for Human Rights presented an overview of a tragic human rights and humanitarian reality endured by civilians in the Middle East and North Africa for over fifteen years due to:
- The spread of armed conflicts.
- The destabilizing interference of some countries and organizations.
- The proliferation of political and security chaos.
She emphasized that children and women have been the main victims of these conflicts, resulting in the destruction of their future, the denial of their right to a dignified life, peace, and security, and the violation of their fundamental rights as enshrined in international human rights legislation.
She further pointed to:
- The failure of the international system to prevent crimes and violations despite the efforts being made.
- The ethical and legal role of the Human Rights Council in protecting civilians, especially vulnerable groups.
- The collapse of healthcare, education, and economic infrastructure in many conflict-affected countries.
The statement also commended international efforts aimed at alleviating civilian suffering, promoting peace, and supporting development, with special praise for the UAE’s efforts in:
- Supporting peace and stability in the region.
- Effectively contributing to humanitarian and relief work.
- Promoting civil and political rights.
- Consolidating international commitment to protecting human rights at both regional and international levels.
