Union Association for Human Rights Participates in the United Nations Civil Society Conference 2024 ‘Shaping a Future of Impact’

The Union Association for Human Rights participated in the United Nations Civil Society Conference 2024 “Shaping a Future of Impact,” held at the United Nations Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, in May 2024. The delegation of the association and its team of human rights experts was headed by Counselor Maryam Al-Ahmadi, Vice President of the Union Association for Human Rights, as part of representing civil society in the United Arab Emirates.
The international conference was attended by more than 3,700 participants, representing numerous international bodies and mechanisms, along with more than 400 international non-governmental organizations working across various humanitarian and development fields. In addition, representatives from a number of companies, institutions, and initiatives concerned with promoting global humanitarian development programs were present, focusing on harnessing modern technologies to serve humanity and address current and future challenges.
The conference included discussions on the visions of civil society organizations regarding the United Nations Pact for the Future, which the UN is currently drafting in its final form, based on deliberations and consultations that aim to anticipate needs and address future challenges.
It also addressed the five principles of the Pact for the Future: sustainable development and financing for development, international peace and security, science, technology, innovation and digital cooperation, youth and future generations, and transforming global governance.
The conference witnessed the launch of the Civil Society Coalition for Future Impact, which will serve as a platform for NGOs from around the world to enhance cooperation between all civil society institutions and to present initiatives and ideas aimed at supporting international efforts to implement the UN Pact for the Future and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The coalition will work on developing a “community action plan” under the supervision of the United Nations, encompassing all ideas, projects, and initiatives related to future international cooperation. This will strengthen the efforts and commitments of states, companies, and NGOs to ensure the integrated implementation and coordination of the pact across all human communities.
