  • What are the competencies of the UAHR?
    1. Supporting the core values and principles of human rights established in international charters, fundamental human rights agreements, and International Humanitarian Law.

    3. Striving to harmonize national legislation with international laws in protecting and promoting human rights in coordination with relevant entities.

  • What are the criteria for submitting a complaint?
    1. It must be submitted only by the affected person or their legal representative, and they must have a direct right to file the complaint.
    2. The complaint form must be filled out, all relevant evidence attached, and the complainant must sign copies of the documents.
    3. Reliable evidence or documents proving the substance of the complaint must be provided, containing accurate information.
    4. The complaint must be clear and include precise details of any alleged violations or potential breaches of human rights experienced, such as dates of events, locations, names of the parties involved (if possible), and any evidence supporting the claim.
    5. The matter must not have been previously considered by the Association, unless new evidence has emerged or additional allegations of potential human rights violations have been raised.
    6. The matter must not have been previously covered in the media or on social media by the applicant or their representative.
    7. The matter must not relate to an issue that is required to be submitted first to the competent authorities.
    8. The matter must not be under consideration by other entities within the country.
    9. The matter must not be pending before the competent courts or have been adjudicated by a judicial ruling.
    10. The matter must not relate to incidents that occurred more than one month ago, unless the delay was due to official procedures, with proof provided.
    11. The matter must not be related to a request for humanitarian assistance or employment.
  • What actions can be taken regarding a complaint?

    The actions taken by the UAHR depend on the outcome of the complaint review. The actions include:

    1. Providing advice to the complainant if there are procedures they need to complete, or if the UAHR is not authorized to consider the complaint (e.g., appealing court rulings).
    2. Coordinating with the relevant authorities to take necessary actions or, depending on the case, conducting a field visit in coordination with the relevant authorities to document and address the complaint.
  • What is the difference between a complaint and a report?

    A complaint is submitted by the affected individual or their legal representative, who has a direct right to the complaint. The UAHR is required to respond to the actions taken regarding the complaint.

    A report is provided by someone who is not personally affected, has no direct right in the matter, and has witnessed or become aware of human rights violations. The UAHR is not obligated to respond to the person providing the report. However, any information received is verified and addressed if proven true.

  • How can I follow up on the complaint I submitted?

    Only the complainant or their legal representative can inquire about the status of the complaint and the actions taken by contacting complaints@theuahr.org.

  • What is the source of funding for the Union Association for Human Rights?

    The financial resources of the association consist of:

    1. Membership fees as stipulated in the Association’s bylaws.
    2. Annual membership subscriptions as determined in accordance with the Association’s bylaws.
    3. Revenues from the activities and services carried out by the Association in line with its objectives and functions.
    4. Returns on investments undertaken by the Association, as authorized under the provisions of the relevant Decree Law.
    5. Donations, gifts, bequests, grants, and subsidies received by the Association in accordance with the laws in force in the country.
    6. Other sources of income, including (interest and profits from deposits and bank accounts, proceeds from the sale of fixed assets, and other non-recurring revenues).
  • Can I join the Union Association for Human Rights, and what are the requirements for membership?

    One can apply for membership in the Union Association for Human Rights through the “Contact Us” platform on the official website. The application requires filling out a form and attaching the following documents:

    1. A copy of the passport.
    2. A copy of the Emirates ID.
    3. A personal photo.
    4. A copy of the academic qualification.
    5. Curriculum vitae (CV).
  • What are the Procedures After Submitting a Membership Application?

    The applicant is notified of the Board of Directors’ decision regarding their application. If the application is approved, the applicant must pay the membership fees within fifteen (15) days from the date of notification. If the application is rejected, the applicant is informed of the reasons and has the right to appeal to the General Assembly at its next meeting. The applicant may also appeal to the Ministry or the local authority.

  • What is the Membership Fee?
    • Primary member fee: AED 1,000 annually.
    • The annual membership fee for a beneficiary member is AED 50.

    Membership fees cover an entire year, starting from January 1st and ending on December 31st of the same year. For the first year, fees apply from joining until December 31st of that year.
