UAHR: Firm rejection of Port Sudan allegations and strong support for UAE’s efforts to end the war in Sudan

The Union Association for Human Rights (UAHR) expresses its deep regret and dismay over the statement issued by the so-called “Port Sudan Authority” on August 4, 2025, which included unfounded and baseless allegations against the United Arab Emirates.

UAHR affirms that this statement is a blatant attempt to mislead public opinion and divert attention from the undeniable facts and well-documented grave violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law — including war crimes committed against civilians — as cited in reports and statements issued by the United Nations and the UN Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan.

The Association stresses that the repeated false accusations against the UAE — a cornerstone of regional and international efforts to achieve a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire in Sudan and to provide humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people — will only serve to deepen the crisis and prolong human suffering.

In this context, UAHR recalls that the UAE has provided more than AED 16.12 billion (equivalent to 4.5% of its total foreign aid) in support of the Sudanese people. This aid has surged unprecedentedly since 2023 in response to the intensifying conflict.

UAHR also highlights the recent statement issued by UNICEF on August 5, 2025, describing the situation in Sudan as “the world’s largest humanitarian crisis threatening the lives of children and families.”

In light of these facts, the Association categorically rejects the use of statements and declarations as tools to justify violations or to evade legal and moral responsibilities — foremost among them: the protection of civilians, the cessation of systematic abuses that fuel the cycle of violence and obstruct prospects for sustainable peace, as well as the upholding of international law as the only viable framework for achieving peace and stability in Sudan.

In conclusion, UAHR reaffirms its full support for the statement issued by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and calls on the international community, the United Nations system, and all stakeholders to:

  • Intensify efforts to protect civilians without discrimination;
  • Ensure real and effective accountability for perpetrators of grave violations;
  • Prevent impunity as a prerequisite for achieving justice;
  • Work diligently to end the Sudanese crisis and fulfill the Sudanese people’s aspirations for security, dignity, development, and just, comprehensive peace.
